Client Background

Nordic Chem is an award-winning chemical wholesaler specialising in innovative, water-based surface protection solutions for the facilities management sector. The company works with mid-sized organisations and large facilities management firms seeking to reduce operational environmental impact while maintaining performance and cost efficiency.

Nordic Chem developed Nordic Chem 2.0, a surface coating designed to reduce cleaning intensity and resource consumption. Clients increasingly requested evidence demonstrating how the product supports ESG objectives, sustainability targets, and carbon reduction commitments

The Challenge

While the sustainability benefits of Nordic Chem 2.0 had been identified internally, they had not yet been independently validated.

Nordic Chem required:

  • Third-party verification of environmental benefits

  • Quantified carbon emissions reductions (CO₂e)

  • A clear comparison between traditional cleaning methods and the new coating-based approach

  • Credible, client-ready evidence to support ESG and sustainability claims

Our Approach

AORA Solutions designed and delivered a comparative carbon emissions scenario analysis to assess how Nordic Chem 2.0 influences operational practices and environmental performance in facilities management.

Over a three-month period, we worked closely with Nordic Chem’s Global Sales & Operations Director and General Manager to fully understand product functionality, operational workflows, and data requirements.

1. Product & Application Assessment

We began by evaluating the product’s technical application and its relevance for facilities management organisations seeking to:

  • Reduce water and energy usage

  • Improve operational efficiency

  • Implement environmentally responsible cleaning practices without increasing cost

2. Scenario Design

We developed a structured scenario analysis comparing traditional cleaning methods against a Nordic Chem 2.0–enabled cleaning regime.

The scenario parameters included:

  • Area treated: 1,000 square metres

  • Timeframe: 1 year of commercial cleaning operations

  • Surfaces assessed:

    • Washrooms

    • Internal hard flooring

    • Carpets

    • External hard flooring

    • Glazing

    • Textiles

  • Cleaning types:

    • Regular cleaning

    • Deep cleaning

This ensured a representative and repeatable comparison aligned with real-world facilities management operations.

3. Carbon Emissions Analysis

For each surface and cleaning type, we analysed:

  • Labour hours required

  • Equipment usage and energy demand

  • Water consumption

  • Changes to cleaning frequency

Using these inputs, we estimated carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions associated with:

  • Initial coating application

  • Ongoing cleaning under the new regime

  • Traditional cleaning practices without the coating

organisation.

Results & Impact

The scenario analysis demonstrated a significant reduction in CO₂e emissions when using Nordic Chem 2.0, primarily driven by:

  • Reduced cleaning time

  • Lower energy consumption

  • Decreased water usage

By applying the coating first and adjusting the cleaning regime accordingly, facilities management operations required fewer hours and resources while maintaining hygiene standards.

Outcome for Nordic Chem

As a result of the project, Nordic Chem can now:

  • Present independently validated carbon emissions data to clients

  • Demonstrate how Nordic Chem 2.0 supports ESG goals and carbon reduction targets

  • Strengthen credibility and trust with stakeholders

  • Differentiate the product through evidence-based sustainability claims

The analysis provides Nordic Chem with client-ready, third-party evidence to support procurement decisions and ESG reporting requirements.
